Happy Hearth & Home… and CASEing the Catty

Surprise! The CASEing the Catty blog hop has now moved to Sunday nights. We hope that gives you a more relaxed time of hopping through the inspiration from the design team. As always though, we would love you to join in. All you need to do is CASE (Copy And Share Everything) a project sample from the Stampin’ Up! catalogue, share it on your blog/Pinterest etc and post your URL in the comments here. We’ll then add you in to the official hop!

This week, we’re focusing on the Home for Christmas suite through to page 21 of the Holiday Catalogue. One of my favourite catalogue samples is part of this section so it wasn’t hard to choose what to CASE this week.

So pretty. I just love this colour combo for Christmas. It’s also a shaker card, containing Dazzling Diamonds glitter for the snow!

I kept mine very similar but did change the image for the even more wintery one from the Happy Scenes stamp set. There’s a sentiment in that set that says ‘Happy Winter’. I’m sure there must be some out there that love winter but I am not one of them. In fact, I struggle with winter. I struggle with the grey, the constant drizzle, the lack of sunlight and the cold. Oh, the cold!

So, I decided that this week I’m dedicating my card to all of you winter strugglers in the Northern Hemisphere. While I’m beginning to enjoy the glorious spring sunshine, I know you’re heading into winter time and some of you are dreading it. I know how you feel. I’m with you!

So instead of making a true Christmas card, mine says, Thinking of You. Because I am.

Winter-spiration

I confess. I HATE winter. It’s grey, it’s dreary, it’s cold and it has never ending drizzle! Here in Australia, we don’t even have Christmas to look forward to in winter. So, being very early June, I needed to give myself a ‘winter is here’ pep talk. My trusty pal Google found this quote which I quite love. It’s true. It won’t be here forever. Soon enough, my fingers and toes will thaw out, little blossoms will appear and spring smells will fill the air.

The first thing I did was to create the quote in MDS using various fonts. I embellished with some flourishes, chevron and snowflakes (the search tool is SO handy for that). When I was happy, I printed it onto Crumb Cake cardstock. I then took my scalpel and cut out the chevron shapes and the centre of the winter and spring letters (yes, an e-cutter is on my birthday wishlist).

Some Dazzling Diamonds glitter adorns my snowflakes, which was the easiest part of decorating. The hardest part was choosing the designer series paper to peek through my cut outs. Fortunately, Stampin’ Up! seemed to have the perfect answers! I love the Polka Dot Parade in Marina Mist for winter – it just looks like tiny snowballs – and there was just no going past Gingham Garden for a beautful, floral spring. The chevron shapes feature various cardstock colours and designer series papers and the idea was that they would graduate from a deep blue winter through to a bright spring. Lastly, a bright butterfly with rhinestones adds the finishing touch.

Does it take your fancy? If so, go ahead and download my free printable below. You can use the same ideas and techniques as I did or create your own work of art. I’d love to see what you make. Be sure to upload a picture on my Facebook page!
