This week I’m hanging with the who’s who of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators over at TGIF Challenges. How exciting is that?
This week features an inspiration challenge. Not my favourite type of challenge but this one’s a beauty. I love this image.
To me, it just says ‘pretty’ and ‘floral’ and kinda ‘modern country’. So that’s what I went for.
Firstly I made a self closing box out of Vary Vanilla cardstock and the grid sheet from Typeset DSP (wonder how many others will use that – it’s SO perfect). I’ve wanted to try making one of these since they’ve started popping up all over the place. I think the original comes from here. I used my favourite new stamp set A Whole Lot of Lovely to stamp little flowers all over the DSP in So Saffron.
To decorate, I made a rose out of filter paper. I first came up with this idea about two years ago and it occurred to me that I hadn’t made one since. Probably because I made 50 of them for swaps. I presented this at the South Pacific convention and then made a tutorial which you can find here. Instead of colouring the rose all one colour, I painted different petals with Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral and Blackberry Bliss inks in aquapainters to stay true to the inspiration picture. If you do the same, just be sure to dry each colour with your heat tool or it may bleed onto the next petal. All I needed now were some leaves which I cut with the largest leaf shape from the Flower Fair framelits set. I nicked the edges with my paper snips and then distressed them a little to give them the look of rose petals. Then I assembled.
I hope you’ll play along with the TGIF Inspiration Challenge this week. I’ve had a great time being the Guest Star and can’t wait to see what you make!
