New Beginnings – Part 1

Hold on to your hats – it’s a new blog post!

It’s been a couple of months since my last post. I’ve had quite a bit of downtime from blogging while working through some mind health issues as well as the usual craziness of the end of the year. Happy to be back on board and sharing some creations again.

Today’s blog post has been more than nine months in the making. My eldest cousin told us several months ago that she and her husband were expecting their first baby in late November. Very exciting news. She is the only one of her 7 brothers and sisters to live in Melbourne. The next closest live in Brisbane (two states away) and the remainder live even farther north in Rockhampton. Undurprisingly, my auntie decided to visit in mid-November to help her prepare and welcome her sweet babe. A short-notice baby shower was organised for the weekend after my aunt arrived. Then the plans all went out the window when Miss Charlotte arrived two weeks early. My baby shower card then turned into a congratulations card.

The idea for this card was taken from a project on Pinterest. Sadly I can’t find the original owner as the links go nowhere but it’s a great concept.

I don’t have any old books around and I probably couldn’t bring myself to draw on them anyway so I had another brainwave… Stampin’ Up!’s Typeset paper. I LOVE this paper. It’s lightweight just like newsprint and it has 6 different double sided designs to use. A couple of them look just like old books or newspaper columns. Perfect for my project and I didn’t have to ‘ruin’ any books.

I used the Baby We’ve Grown stamp set which is my current favourite for all things baby. I stamped the image onto the paper and then used my white gel pen to do a scribbly thick outline around the image. I also used the gel pen to colour in the owl’s eyes to make them pop. I then used several markers in ‘baby colours’ to subtly colour the owl’s clothes. Then it was a case of finishing off the card by sewing around it and embellishing with ribbons and a button.

The card stands on my gift which is wrapped in kraft paper but stuck with Sweet Sadie washi tape. I’m generally not a fan of visible sticky tape on presents but it seemed to suit the style of this card perfectly.
