In every catalogue there’s a stamp set that at first doesn’t scream my name but usually by the time it comes to order, I think I need it, so I order it and then I can’t stop thinking about creating with it and it becomes a favourite. Lighthearted Leaves is that set for me in the Holiday Catalogue. I thought I liked it for a while and then I thought some more and I KNEW I liked it.
I like to make stamp sets and tools work hard for me. I like them to have more purpose than perhaps what they were originally designed for. So in today’s post, Lighthearted Leaves is going Christmassy.
I started with a graduating wash of Mossy Meadow watercolour on Shimmery White cardstock. I then used the ‘leaf’ stamp that I think looks like a tree anyway in Mossy Meadow on top. Next I added some decorations but kept it simple and in the same style as the leaf/tree. I simply used my Real Red marker (fine tip end) and drew some small red decorations or perhaps they are berries? Next my Fine Tip Glue pen added some dimension and gloss, Crystal Effects style.
Anyone that follows my blog will know that I am NOT a sentiments type person. Most of my cards don’t even have one – I just like it better without. BUT, sometimes you need one and this was one of those times. Most of the sentiments that came with the sets I chose from this year’s catalogue referred to winter or snow etc, which just does not apply in this neck of the woods. My eye caught the Noel from Happy Scenes and I thought it would be cute with something. A quick Google tells me that Joyeux Noel means Merry Christmas in French, and everything is more classy in French, right?
I used my trusty Alphabet Rotary stamp for the ‘Joyeux’ and made them into little flags and paired them with a bright Real Red ribbon.
And then I made lots… for swaps… because it’s nice to share ideas.
