A bye bye blog hop

Today’s blog hop is brought to you by the annual Stampin’ Up! retirement list. It’s a beauty this year. There are literally loads of stamp sets, tools and accessories at 50%. I can’t remember a more discounted list than this one which is great news for you! To view retiring stamp sets, click here. To view retiring tools and accessories, click here.

A few of my teammates and I thought we should share with you some of our favourite products that we’re sad to see retire… and hopefully convince you that you should give them a forever home.

My first project uses no fewer than 5 stamp sets! I know – I even impressed myself. As sometimes happens, I had a crazy idea and then had to make it happen. So here it is…

Cute, right? When I started the projects for this blog hop I was staring at a pile of stamp sets I’d put aside that were retiring. There were so many I wanted to use, especially the Make Note Rotary stamp which I think is so underrated! I love the little row of ‘nerd’ glasses and had the sudden thought to put them on something. My eye caught the little bunny in Baby We’ve Grown and that was that. A quick Google gave me a suitable ‘nerd quote’ and I was off. Dictionary was the perfect background stamp for this one and I used Hip Notes and the Simply Serif Alphabet for the text. Many of these items are discounted so check out the images and links below to take advantage.

Retiring Products

My next projects are very different. I wanted to showcase another underrated product – Canvas Creations. I haven’t seen many projects made with it but I love it! Watercolouring and dipped projects are so trendy so I wanted to create something along those lines. I cut some canvas and mixed myself some water and Strawberry Slush re-inker in a small bucket. Then it was just a case of dipping the bottom of my canvas tag into the dyed water. I took it out, dried it with my heat tool to speed up the drying process and then repeated several times until I had the desired effect.

I added some gold ink (can you believe that’s retiring??) spots with a sponge dauber and then stamped on my ‘hello’ sentiment with versamark. I then sprinkled on some gold embossing powder and heated it. It didn’t work brilliantly I’ll admit, but it does have a small amount of sparkle.

To finish, I attached it to a large kraft box with cotton ribbon (the one you can stamp on). Pretty!

Well that turned out well so I repeated with Coastal Cabana dye. I dipped using the same process as above but this time I flipped the tag over and noticed that the coated side was more vibrant so I decided to feature that side this time. I used the divine Hello There hostess stamp set for the sentiment and the little flower from the set for the spots. This time, the gold ink really shone in contrast to the fabric side I’d used above. This stuff is so versatile and it’s 50% off! Yahoo! At less than $3.50 per pack, you really should get yourself some!!!

This time around I used it on a smaller kraft gift box, along with some Lost Lagoon ribbon.

And it doesn’t stop here! You can also use Canvas Creations on cards! Here’s the same tag turned into a card…

Have I convinced you yet? I think I’ve convinced myself to buy about 10 packets!

Here are the supply links for these projects. Note: Coastal Cabana re-inker has already sold out. Try Pool Party for a similar result.

Honeycomb Heart Happy Mail

Today’s blog project may seem familiar to you if you’re a follower of my blog or Facebook page. I’ve re-created a project that I made in August for CASEing the Catty Challenges. Our larger Stampin’ Up! team regularly run mail swaps where you can sign up, create the same project for swap participants and then send them off. In return, you receive lots of happy mail, a project from each swap participant. It’s a lot of fun and much nicer than just receiving bills all the time!

The swap theme for October was CASEing the Annual Catalogue (fancy that) so we were to select a favourite project from the catalogue samples and recreate it. I chose one of my favourites because I loved how it turned out for the challenge and I wanted to create some for the other girls. This time, rather than changing the project sample from a card to a box, I kept it as a card. Cheaper and easier to post and just as much WOW (I hope)!

And here they are! It was a little bit of work (you may recall it involved cutting mini glue dots into quarters) but I think it will be worth it when they open their mail. Because they are 3D, I dad have to send them with the hearts closed and some little instructions but as they’re all fellow demos, I think they can handle it.

Honeycomb Hearts… and Caseing the Catty

This week at caseingthecatty.blogspot.com.au we’re CASEing the weddings section of the catalogue. I chose to CASE the card on page 67 (South Pacific catalogue) but I don’t own the Flower Shop stamp set or Pansy punch. Instead I decided to use the brand new Sweetheart punch with Gold Soiree designer series paper as the colours in that are similar to the project, except the Soft Sky. I had an idea for the centre feature heart and that was to create a honeycomb heart. Honeycomb balls are everywhere in decorating and I figured there must be a way to DIY. Thanks to my good friend Google, I came across this blog post which showed how to do it for a Christmas ornament. I just adapted the instructions to my much smaller heart. This did involve cutting glue dots into quarters – yep, I’m committed to the cause!

I decided to change the card to a box just for something different and decided to put the base colour underneath the acetate sleeve. This way you can change the base colour to anything you like! The top features are stuck to the acetate sleeve and will slide off when the recipient opens the gift box.

Did you notice that i did NOT use sequins?? Although I was very tempted, the sample used candy dots so I thought I’d do the same. I coloured in Very Vanilla dots with my Gold Stampin’ Dazzle Marker to match the rest of the gold.
