Wow, wow, wow! What a huge response we had to the first Global Design Team challenge. Thank you all SO much for your wonderful ideas, projects and comments. We are so thrilled that so many of you could join in with us. If you missed out, here’s another opportunity to jump on in.

This week at GDP, we have a sketch challenge for you to try. I LOVE sketch challenges. They are my favourite and the easiest challenges I think. Just choose your stamps and colours and away you go.

#GDP002 I Global Design Project I www.thepapercaper.com.au by Jessica Williams

I decided to replace the feature circle with a big stamp and it’s been a long time since I inked up Blended Bloom. I also love playing around with watercolour and all of Stampin’ Up!’s specialty papers. This week I decided to try watercolouring on filter paper. As it’s very absorbant, I heat embossed the image first in order to help the ink stop where I wanted it to. Then I used my smallest paintbrush and the very beautiful Blackberry Bliss ink (why do I always fall in love with the In Colors in the year that they will retire?) to watercolour each petal. It’s best if you go one at a time. I regularly sped up the process by using my heat tool so as to stop the colours running. It also helps stop accidental colour coming through from the scratch paper you’re working on top of because this WILL get colour on it that seeps through the filter paper.

Once finished, I went about putting together the rest of the elements from the sketch. I used the new wide Very Vanilla Subtle Stripes ribbon as my rectangle and used Gold Cording Trim and Gold 1/8″ Ribbon as my accents. The flower, once cut out was beautiful and delicate but I wanted it to stand out off the page so I made three more un-coloured versions, but still heat embossed in gold, and used them as a sort of petticoat.

I finished off by adding a simple Vanilla and Black insert on the inside to match the front.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my project. Make sure you visit all the rest of the international design team for inspiration and then play along youself. Add a photo of your project on the GDP website to share your creativity with us.

Note: Did you know that you don’t need a blog to play? Last week we had entries that were linked to Pinterest and Splitcoast Stampers member galleries as well as blogs. So what are you waiting for?

Brand new Blendabilities

Have you noticed the Stampin’ Blendabilities page in the catalogue but skipped past because you just don’t know what to do with them? In short, Bendabilities are alcohol markers and are the best for blending colours and shades. They’re very similar to Copic markers but Stampin’ Up! have made a much easier system. Blendabilities come in packs of 3 markers. A light, medium and dark shade of the same colour. And because they’re from Stampin’ Up!, they come in Stampin’ Up! colours so you know they’re going to exactly match all your cardstock, ribbons and inks etc.

I’m new to alcohol markers but wanted to give them a go and create a class to teach other beginners. I watched some tutorial videos from Stampin’ Up! and then it was simply a matter of playing. Here are the cards I made and they are the same cards we’ll be making in my Blendabilities class on Wednesday 27 August.

These cards were CASEd and/or inspired by Sharon Burkert and Carolina Evans.
