OK, I lie. There are no grad parties. This is one of those occasions (like Halloween) that we just don’t celebrate as much as our US family. Which means our CASEing the Catty topic and #TGIF03 theme were quite a challenge this week! I
somewhat entirely departed from a traditional CASE but totally kept the grad theme.
I have seen loads of grad party invites lately on Instagram and Pinterest (<– shameless ‘follow me on social media’ plug) so I figure that they must be a big deal in the states. And what’s a party without decorations and favours? So the little cogs in my brain started turning over and I came up with a cute mortarboard favour box featuring the ever adorable tiny treat box.
The best part is, they’re super easy to make. Cut a strip of Basic Black cardstock 2″ x approx 8 1/2″. Score at 1/2″. This will be your tab at the back of the box. Holding the tab on one corner, fold the remainder of the strip around the treat box until you’re at the back again. Next, press your creases firmly with a bone folder. Take a 2″ Circle Punch and punch a semi circle from the bottom of each ‘side’ of the strip. Adhere the strip to your treat box. Next take the smallest Antique Brad and coat it in VersaMark then dip in black embossing powder and heat. Repeat once or twice if necessary. Pierce the centre of a piece of 4″ x 4″ Basic Black cardstock and the centre of the treat box lid. Attach the Basic Black cardstock to the treat box lid using the brad. Create a tassel using your desired Baker’s Twine colour, or make it from white/cream twine and then dye to match your qualification colour. To create my tassel, I separated the individual threads to give it more volume. Then simply wind your tassel around the brad until it’s the correct length.
Happy graduation grads!
