Well hello there stamp lovin’ friends! This week The Stamp Review Crew is featuring the gorgeous Botanical Blooms stamp set and I’m sure many of us will have also used the coordinating Botanical Builder Framelits.
If possible, I like to use stamp sets in not-so-standard ways. I was looking at this set for a while and I was taken with the leaf that somewhat looks like a feather. That got me thinking about different ways feathers are used and how I could translate that onto a card.
I set about experimenting with colour and splashed some inks onto Shimmery White paper in different combinations. After I embossed my leaf stamp with Copper Embossing Powder I cut out each of my feathers with the coordinating framelit. By this stage I knew that I wanted to make a Native American style headdress.
Because the stamp set has no greetings, I used the new Labeler Alphabet to create my own. I wanted the sentiment to convey the expression of the card. I chose the well known Shakespeare quote ‘Though she be but little, she is fierce’, from A Mids
ummer Night’s Dream. I’ll admit that I don’t know how Shakespeare intended it to be but to me this fierce doesn’t mean aggressive or war-like, it means determined, purposeful and strong. Strong of character, strong of mind, honourable and a protector of people. It’s what I imagine the much respected Native American recipients of feathers would have been like.
I hope this card inspires you to think outside the square with some of your stamp sets. I truly love how its turned out and I think I might keep it for myself to look at for a little while. To remind me that though I be but little (not quite 5’2″), I am fierce. I am strong. I can do it.
Now, be sure to continue the hop and jump on over to my friend Bronwyn. Her creations are always out of this world and I’m sure you’ll be wowed by her talents!
