Only 3 more Mondays until Christmas! Perhaps I shouldn’t have looked that up – I’m starting to scare myself! Never mind, it’s time to sit back and relax and scroll through some festive projects to inspire your holidays.
This week we have a colour challenge for the Global Design Project. Our three festive colours are Real Red, Old Olive and Crumb Cake.
Recently on Instagram I saw a project by Laura Bassen using ink and daubers to make stripes and plaid designs. I decided to have a go but to take it one step further and create my design on a Stampin’ Up! Mini Muslin Bag.
I started by using some washi tape across one corner and taping it in place. Then I daubed a colour up to the washi tape then removed it to reveal a line. I then moved the washi tape up a little and placed a second piece of washi tape to create another line. I used a different colour ink and daubed between the washi tape to create another line. Repeat this process until you have stripes covering the bag, then rotate and do stripes in the opposite direction creating a plaid design.
Once I had created the plaid, I removed the drawstring and replaced it with some coordinating Real Red cotton ribbon and decorated with stars. The smaller star is cut from the Burlap Trim. Simply run it through the Big Shot using the Stars Framelits and while the framelit is still imbedded in the burlap, place some Fine Tip Glue around the outline. This will stop fraying once you remove the framelit when dry. I also added some extra glue in the area where I wanted the hole. Once dry you can punch out and it won’t fray.
